MATT DAMON FRONTRUNNER TO PLAY PHYSICIST & UFO EXPERIENCER BOB LAZAR

Matt Damon's dreams of playing real-life alien expert Bob Lazar are back on - a new biopic about the scientist has been greenlighted.

Damon was reportedly onboard to play Lazar four years ago when movie executives at New Line were hoping to turn his life story and his recollections of working at S4, a secret military base located at Papoose Lake in Nevada, into a movie, but film plans stalled.

Now Curmudgeon Films - the company behind Cameron Diaz's movie My Sister's Keeper - has taken over the project and Kenneth Yakkel is adapting TV interviews Lazar conducted with Las Vegas reporter George Knapp for the movie.

A spokesman for the project says, "2009 marks the 20th anniversary of Lazar's amazing account of back engineering one of nine alien flying saucers recovered by the U.S. military.

"Threats on his (Lazar) life forced him to go public with the story. The film is based on his amazing eyewitness accounts of working at S4.

"Matt Damon would be at the top of our list to play Lazar. I had heard he was interested in it years ago when New Line was going to do the Lazar story."

When I first heard of Lazar's stories years ago, I was intrigued. After hearing his detractors claim that there were no records of him working with the government (besides a pay stub) and no record of his academic achievements, I lost interest in his stories. After watching an episode of the History Channel's show UFO Hunters that mentioned some of his claims, I began to reconsider my skepticism. I'm still not sure if I believe him or not, but I'd definitely be interested in watching a movie about him if they make it.

You pretty much summed up exactly how I feel. That one paycheck, which was nothing certainly to write home about isn't credible enough.

I'd pay to see it. Lazar was one of the more interesting UFO characters to emerge in the last 20years, although I don't beieve him. Nevertheless, I can't wait to see how Damon would interpret him.

Lazar's Badge

DJ, I've seen it before and it is still meaningless considering how easy it is to make just about anything. Drivers licenses have been copied to death for many, many years - anything goes in that regard. Today no, because everything is accepted electronically but yesterday where you just showed a laminated badge, that was different.

The convenience of his employment was his cover up since nobody could verify it due to it's nature so he always had a solid answer. It doesn't matter though, he only produced one pay stub and it was such a small figure for a job description such as his. I don't care if he worked two hours, he was grossly underpaid for his title. It led me to believe that he was possibly working for a sub-contractor of some kind and needed a clearance to be where it was he was - for that contractor.

It's sorta like the Phil Schneider story where he told everyone he worked for the government. His mistake was that he failed to tell everyone that he had been working for the Army Corp of Engineers whose job it is to dig tunnels. They do it for a living. So why after all of those years did he keep that a secret? Why didn't he tell anyone who he really worked for and instead just said "the government?" Besides the fact that "the government" sounds cooler :) if he said ACoE then everyone would have been seeking the necessary information from the Army Corp of Engineers.

His social security records busted him righteously after he died though so Schneider got swept under the carpet. And, Phil Schneider never attended college so he had zero degrees. How many lies does a person have to tell before people catch on.

I've always felt that we had a few too many narcissistic whistleblowers in the realm of ufology and honestly, until Lazar can come up with undeniable facts, his story will always be just a possibility and not considered fact until we see the facts.

Steve Buscemi would be a better choice; he resembles Lazar.
