This guy's been into ESP and other paranormal stuff since he was an astronaut, even conducting some "experiments" on his own while in space...

I wonder if he's trustworthy?
Trustworthy? I don't think that would have too much to do with involving oneself with the paranormal.
What Mitchell said in that interview, he has said to many people in the past, it's just never been on the air and recorded.
The same statements were made more recently to Stanton Friedman and he has the quotes in his new book called Flying Saucers are real. For that matter, Mitchell also stated some things on Larry King Live. Not to the tune that he did this time but it's not been a secret.
