LARRY KING, MENACE TO THINKING - ACCORDING TO DISCOVERY MAGAZINE'S BAD ASTRONOMY BLOG AUTHOR

DEBUNKING, PIECE OF MIND, SCIENCE, SKEPTICISM

There were comments in here of mine previously, which I removed because I simply feel like I'm spitting in the wind when honestly he's really not worth it. I will mention two things however. The show was on the 18th and not the 20th so his moon statement is completely incorrect and the topic was about someone, possibly UFOs, having the capability to disarm our ICBMs and not about crop circles. So in his mind, we simply throw irrational garbage around even though multitudes heard the UFO/ICBM story for the first time ever on the 18th. - Aliencontactee

The latter I am no fan of Larry King. I really don't see his appeal; he tends to ask facile questions, throw softballs, probe about 1 nanometer deep, and have a lot of guests with extremely questionable credentials.

The latter is the stuff of which blog posts are written.

My friend and fellow skeptic Scott Hurst pointed me to a video on CNN's site from Larry King's show on July 20.

Why he would pick the anniversary of the day we walked on the Moon for the first time for this particular topic is beyond me, but then, so are the claims of his guests. They are UFO believers. They all appear to have good credentials: military men, engineers, and so on. But credentials mean little to me; I prefer evidence.

Did they have any?

Guess.

The best part: they show a video of a crop circle obviously taken from some distance away and using a telephoto. There are people walking around in it, and a white unresolved object apparently flying over it. Given that the videographer followed this object as it flew around and then off to the side, it’s clear we are to think this is some sort of flying saucer or UFO or perhaps the TARDIS.

But notice anything funny about it? Like, how no one walking around seems to notice it? What can we surmise from this?

I surmise it was a bird. That would fit all the facts in hand. Now, it appears to accelerate rapidly, but then, we don’t know where the bird is. It looks like it’s over the circle, but it might be much closer to the person taking the footage. With a big telephoto there is little depth perception, and so it could have been much closer to the camera than the circle, and just appeared between them. That’s why no one noticed it, and why it appeared to move so rapidly.

Does that explanation make more sense than it being a UFO?

And these guys talk a good game, I’ll give them that, but they all have the same story: I had great footage, but the government took it away! Yeah, OK, sure. So why are you on national TV then?

Oh, right. The gatekeepers on the news stations don’t give a fig about reality. Larry King has had all sorts of fraudulent "psychics "on his show, and UFO people, and and and. To his credit, he had Randi on once, but he still promotes all manners of irrational garbage.

So, Larry King: feh. And CNN: shame on you.

THE GREAT TEXAS AIRSHIP MYSTERY - UFO IN TEXAS 1897

It's been called the purist UFO sighting ever.

Once you're done viewing the video, click on the other video that looks like this picture and you'll view an 11 minute, off-the-cuff interview with Wallace Chariton.

Wallace Chariton spends a lot of time in libraries and halls of records. Chariton is a well-published Texas historian. He's scoured the records of a century ago and has written a book on one of the strangest chapters in the state's past called, 'The Great Texas Airship Mystery'.
'The Great Texas Airship Mystery'
"I think the airship mystery, as I call it is very real. This was before the Wright brothers. This was before any type of known flying machine."
In fact, during the frenzy of sightings papers publish an account from Germany of the Stentzel flying bird. It was a crude, bird shaped craft with a small motor powered by compressed carbolic acid gas. It was hailed as the machine that would first fly. There are no accounts that it ever flew. The same is true for similar descriptions of the object soaring above Texas; also the sightings all have very similar characteristics of shape, lights on the vehicle, etc.
"All persons who have had a good view of it gave about the same description, and all testify as to its carrying a large light, and a few say at times it has many."
Here are some other accounts drawn from the newspapers of the day:
"We could only gain a faint idea of its accurate size, but think it must have been 200 feet long, the sails or wings constituting nine-tenths of the whole. There seemed to be a huge searchlight attached to the aerial machine and the light was thrown in several different directions. I was astonished by a brilliant flash from an electric search light which passed directly over my buggy. I want to tell you also I was frightened to death by it!!"
The ship was in the shape of a cigar and had two sets of wings on each side; in 1897 a lot of cigars were not the cylindrical round shape. They came to a point, interestingly; if you look at a saucer on its side it has the same shape. They had no concept of a flying saucer. Several people report seeing the craft on the ground with crew members performing repairs. Many of the stories published are obvious embellishments such as the judge who told him the crew came for North Pole Land and needed an airship to get over the ice for a visit. But many more descriptions are from lawyers, shop owners, railroad workers, farmers and homemakers and seem to describe a similar experience. The reports continue for more than a month in a long list of cities: Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Weatherford, Beaumont, Cleburn, Bonham Garland, Farmersville, Oak Cliff, Sherman, Waxahachie, Stephenville and more.

The sightings span the State of Texas, parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois and even California and then they stop abruptly, Wallace Charlton says that:
"Unfortunately, that's where the story ends. What you're left with is hundreds and hundreds of plain ordinary people saying, "I saw a flying machine!" But I will never discount the fact that so many people saw something that was foreign to them and they all basically described it the same way. So, something happened. This is Texas history. We can't ignore it."

PLANE DISAPPEARS IN CLOUD - TWO UFOs COME OUT OF CLOUD

The plane could have veered to it's right after entering the cloud and flown in a direction remaining inline with the cloud, which is probably why it was never visible but there's no doubt that when the plane entered the cloud, UFOs scrambled out of it into our line of sight. This is the creepiest video I've seen in a long time.

INTERVIEW WITH GRANDSON OF ROSWELL CRASH SITE (FOSTER RANCH)

1947 Roswell UFO crash site: Foster Ranch owner's grandson (Cody Derek) talks about relatives' experience in an Interview with Jake Reason.

I am the great grandson of HS Foster, the owner of the Foster Ranch.

My great grandfather and his twin brother JB(Jap) Foster owned the ranch. They owned large ranches in NM, Midland, and Kent TX(Davis Mountains area). I never knew about the role that my family played in this historic event until a few years ago after watching a story about it on television.

My papa passed away two years ago and within the last year and half I became very interested in it again. This time I went and talked to my uncle (my grandfather's brother in law). He was very open about it and told me he was about 17 when it happened while working for my great grandfather in Texas. He says he remembers speaking to Mac Brazel and the other ranch hands about it when they helped work a bunch of cattle later. I asked him point blank if it was a UFO. He said, "Those boys up there told me they were certain without doubt that what they saw was a flying saucer." I then asked him if they saw any bodies in the wreckage. He replied," uh...uh, I don't know...I can't remember." Then he told me, "that is all I remember about that." I let it go, out of respect.

I never visited the site. It was sold about 18 years before I was born. I have been to the ranch that my grandfather owned until the late 80's in New Mexico. I don't have anything interesting to say about the visits other than anytime we(my grandfather and I) would go out there we never stayed the night in New Mexico. We would always drive back to Texas.

I have one more person I have yet to talk to about the ranch. My great father's twin brother still has a daughter that is alive. I have only met her once at my grandfather's funeral. I am going to call her after the holidays and see if she was ever told anything about the Roswell incident.

I have never personally seen a UFO, I think. I have seen some strange lights during my time in Kosovo in '99-'00, but that could have been anything with all the military ops being preformed during that time. My dad did say that he had an encounter with a UFO in New Mexico once. He said it was late at night on the way home from the New Mexico ranch, and that they were they the only ones on the interstate that he could see, on a long flat stretch of road. He said all of a sudden there were these strange lights about 100 yards ahead of them in the opposite lane of travel going the same direction as they were, and the lights were only about 10-15 feet off the road surface. He said the lights stayed ahead of them for about 4 or 5 miles, and when they sped up to look, the lights sped up as well. He said they saw some headlights coming over a hill and then the strange lights just took off into the air at an incredible rate of speed.
